For these to function correctly, understand that the ‘top level’ menu items will show up as the horizontal buttons across the top of the template. For sub menu items, assign Parent Item to these top menus to the top-level item. These will then show up below in a sub-horizontal menu when you click on a top-level item. PDF là định dạng file văn bản đang ngày càng thông dụng. Tuy nhiên, các tiện ích để xem file PDF lại không mấy thông dụng và ít khi được cài đặt. Trong trường hợp máy tính chưa được cài đặt bất kỳ tiện ích xem file PDF nào, PDFMeNot sẽ là “cứu cánh” cho bạn.

Thông thường, để xem được 1 file PDF, bạn sẽ download file đó về máy, sử dụng các tiện ích đọc file PDF để mở. Tuy nhiên, nếu máy tính của bạn chưa cài đặt bất kỳ 1 tiện ích mở file PDF nào, thì bạn vẫn còn có cách để xem trực tuyến file PDF mà ko cần phải download nó về máy cũng như cài đặt thêm bất kỳ phần mềm nào.

PDFmenot là một dịch vụ miễn phí cho phép bạn xem file PDF trực tuyến cho dù file được lưu trữ trong máy tính hay trên 1 server nào đó.

Để sử dụng, dịch vụ, bạn truy cập vào trang web www.pdfmenot.com . Tại đây có 2 lựa chọn:

- Để xem 1 file PDF được chứa trên 1 server nào đó, bạn copy địa chỉ chứa filep PDF đó và dán vào mục Enter the URL of a PDF file và click vào nút View PDF.

- Để xem 1 file PDF có sẵn trên máy tính của bạn, chỉ việc click vào Browse, chọn file PDF cần xem và click vào upload.

Sau khi upload thành công, nội dung của file pdf cần xem sẽ được hiển thị trong cửa sổ trình duyệt. Bạn điều chỉnh độ phóng to thu nhỏ của file bằng thanh trượt và điều chỉnh trang đang xem bằng nút bấm ở góc phải của trang web.

Một điều là dịch vụ này cho phép bạn upload nhiều file PDF hoàn toàn miễn phí, tương đương với một host PDF giành cho mọi người. Sau khi upload, bạn có thể lấy link của file PDF và gửi cho bạn bè hay đồng nghiệp. Theo “truyền thống” Google, hãng luôn dành đất cho nhân viên sáng tạo tiện ích mới cho sản phẩm hiện tại được gọi chung là “Labs”. Gmail tất nhiên không phải ngoại lệ, nhưng những tiện ích nhỏ mà thuận tiện này lại ít được người dùng biết tới. Để kích hoạt các chức năng Labs, bạn cần đăng nhập vào tài khoản Gmail. Tại góc trên cùng bên phải hòm thư, chọn Settings > Labs.

1. Superstar - sặc sỡ màu sắc

Bạn vốn có thói quen đánh dấu ngôi sao (”star”) cho các mail đặc biệt để dễ tìm sau này? Superstar bổ sung thêm tới 5 ngôi sao mới để tiện “phân loại đặc biệt” hơn. Sau khi kích hoạt chức năng này, bạn có thể thay đổi ngôi sao đánh dấu trên tiêu đề thư bằng cách dùng nút S hoặc nhấn vào để thay đổi lần lượt.

Để tìm các thư với sao nhất định, kèm theo chữ “has” tông cụm từ khoá khi dùng chức năng search của gmail. (Ví dụ: “has: red-bang”). Để biết tên ngôi sao, bạn có thể đưa chuột lên trên khoảng vài giây.

Ngoài ra, bạn có thể dùng Custom Label Colours để tô điểm thêm cho hòm thư. Labels là chức năng bổ sung nhãn phân loại tương tự thêm “star”, nhưng cụ thể và dễ tuỳ biến hơn. Mặc định, bạn chỉ có thể chọn 1 trong 6 màu label có sẵn. Custom Label Colour cho phép bạn đổi màu nhãn thư tuỳ thích thay vì chỉ được chọn màu mặc định.

Để bổ sung nhãn cho email, tích vào thư, chọn “New Label” trong danh sách “More Action“.

Để thêm màu, chọn Edit labels > Add custom color, chọn màu và xác nhận.

2. “Lên đời” chat trong gmail

Mặc dù không phổ biến như Yahoo Messenger, tiện ích chat đi kèm theo Gmail tỏ ra rất hữu ích khi trao đổi các thông điệp ngắn tới bạn bè cùng dùng chung Gmail.

Picutures in chat: xem ảnh bạn bè trên cửa sổ chat nhúng trong gmail tương tự như avatar của Yahoo.

Right-side chat: chuyển ô chat sang bên phải của hòm thư.

Muzzle: tiết kiệm diện tích màn hình bằng cách giấu các đoạn status của friend trong cửa sổ chat

3. Mouse Gesture

Khởi đầu từ trình duyệt Opera, chức năng Mouse Geture dùng chuột thay vì nhấn nút để duyệt web được các trình duyệt khác học hỏi rộng rãi, từ Maxthon, Avant, tới Firefox.. và nay là Gmail, tất nhiên dưới dạng đơn giản hoá. Giữ chuột phải và di chuột sang hai bên trái/phải để xem lần lượt các mail được reply qua lại, hoặc đẩy lên để quay lại màn hình inbox.

4. Quote Selected text - chỉ hồi âm một phần trong thư

Qua rồi những ngày bạn phải “lọ mọ” xoá gần email chỉ để reply vài dòng cần thiết. Chức năng này cho phép bôi đen một đoạn chữ trong thư, và chỉ kèm theo đúng đoạn đó trong thư trả lời khi bạn nhấn “reply” lại cho người gửi.

5. “Công cụ phòng ngừa làm việc quá sức”

Mail Google là công cụ tuyệt vời giúp những người nghiện làm việc đêm có cơ hội nghỉ ngơi. Nếu làm quá khuya, bạn sẽ được Gmail hỏi vài phép tính đơn giản. Vẫn tỉnh táo trả lời đúng, bạn có thể làm làm việc tiếp. Trả lời sai, có lẽ đã dến lúc bạn nên nghỉ ngơi. Thời gian “hỏi thăm” có thể thay đổi trong mục Settings > General

Đi kèm với “công cụ chống làm việc quá giờ” này tuyệt vời nhất có lẽ là “Bộ dò quên file đính kèm” dành cho người đãng trí. Fogotten Attachment Detector sẽ nhắc nhở bạn chọn file đính kèm nếu trong thư đề cập đến chữ “attach” mà không thêm gì cả.

Trên đây là những tiện ích thú vị nhất trong “phòng thí nghiệm” Gmail. Bạn có thể thử lần luợt để chọn ra tiện ích ưng ý nhất.
